it appears that fellow conyers native and bad ass soccer player clint mathis is on the front of Sports Illustrated. damn that's great. I remember when he was a kid playing on my friend ryan's club team. he was good. probably the best with ball skills on the team, but he wasn't necessarily the most gifted. conyers was a huge soccer community when I was growing up, still is in fact - heritage high won state this year. there were so many players who I thought could do anything they wanted. many of them just plopped out and gave up on the sport after high school. most of those elite talented few actually turned into heavy drug users and never really played the sport again. sad. makes me wonder how many talented athletes in this country never realized and acted on their gifts -- especially those who had the opportunity. but at the same time you see one guy whose hard work ethic made him the "best player in the country."
